Graham Robson: Motoring Historian, Commentator and Prolific Author

It was with deep sadness that we learn of the death of 85 year old motoring historian, commentator and prolific author Graham Robson who passed away on Friday 5th August 2021.

Graham was a great friend of the AOVC, having commented at the Kilbroney Show in Rostrevor for several years and our Classic Show in Ballymena.

His knowledge of a huge range of vehicles down to the smallest detail was legendary in many cases telling owners of vehicles at shows a lot more about the vehicle they owned than they knew.

He died peacefully at home in Dorset, where he was recovering slowly from a fall in May which fractured his hip and had required a long spell in hospital.

Graham Robson 1936 to 2021

Graham graduated in engineering from Oxford in 1957 joining Jaguar as one of their first Graduate Trainees and his first job there was the design of the exhaust system for the Jaguar E-Type.

Over the years he had many positions in the motor industry and was the Competition Secretary of Standard-Triumph where he oversaw the Works TR4 Team have victory at Le Mans in a Spitfire.

He was the author of 170 publications more than any other British motoring writer and was working on his latest book at the time of his fall.

In 2004 he was honoured by receiving the Montagu Trophy.

We send our condolences to his two sons – Hamish a senior design engineer with Toyota Motorsport in Germany, and Jonathan who is an experienced Landscape Gardener in Dorset.
